Our three Estate vineyards are located in the Northern Dundee Hills appellation. The AVA is perhaps best known for its rust-red volcanic soils formed by Columbia River Basalts more than 14 million years ago. These rich clay-loam soils, predominantly Jory and Nekia, are deep and well drained. Combined, all three vineyard sites total 60 acres under vine and comprise more than 80 individual vineyard blocks. Planting began in 1988 with Pommard and Wädenswil. Today, the oldest vines in the vineyard are now reaching their zenith at 33+ years of age, and they express terroir-driven power and finesse.

The nose really pops on this wine with aromas of candied blueberry, red plum skin, violet flower and wet autumn leaves. I wasn’t told the % of new oak treatment, but I imagine it’s probably around 30-40%, but it doesn’t overpower this stunning Pinot Noir. Tannins are silky and smooth, the acidity is plentiful and the wonderful fruit tones come together perfectly with the savory and mineral aspects of the wine. 240 cases produced. Aromas of raspberries, red currants and blueberries with dried-herb and smoke undertones. Medium-bodied with plush tannins and bright acidity. Fresh and vibrant with juicy character and plenty of red fruit on the mid-palate. Delicate finish. Drink or hold.

The Vintage
“The vintage came on early with warm days emerging in April and May. Bud break was on par with recent years, and on the whole the summer was warm without excessive heat spikes. Autumn was devoid of the strong high pressure systems we’ve been accustomed to in recent years. This compelled additional planning on the part of our winemakers and vignerons. Our harvest started on September 14th, and was focused on whites. With patience and planning, we worked our way into the rhythm of the season, confident that our experience, and the experience of all our growers, would be manifest in sound, ripe grapes.“ — Executive Winemaker, Don Lange
