This Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from the Liberty Block of the Lange’s longtime vineyard partner - Freedom Hill Vineyard, which is planted on marine sedimentary soil. Don, Wendy, and Jesse Lange have sourced fruit from the Dusschee family since 1990 and began crafting this single-block Pinot Noir in 2014. The site’s characteristically warm days and cool nights allow for complete fruit ripening while maintaining essential acid balance. The result is a structured and age-worthy wine.
As with all of our pinot noirs from the 2019 vintage, a cooler growing season graced this wine with a slightly lighter, more delicate countenance than we normally see in bottlings from this block. Even so, the nose is a riot of strawberries, blueberry compote, spice cake, and mocha. The palate is packed with bright acidity and well-integrated tannins balanced by flavors of bitter cherry, plum, sweet cedar, and a subtle underlying dusky minerality. This is a vintage that you can enjoy now or lay down for another decade, if you have the patience.
