2021 Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir

2021 Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir

This pinot noir is a blend of fruit from our longtime partner, Freedom Hill Vineyard, which is planted to marine sedimentary soil. The Lange’s have sourced fruit from the Duschee family since 1996. The site’s typically warm days and cool nights allow for complete fruit ripening while maintaining essential acid balance.

Elegantly structured yet a bit brooding at the core, with blueberry and guava flavors laced with dusky spice and mineral accents. Concludes with refined tannins. Drink now through 2031. 250 cases made.

Fragrant nose of dark cherries, black raspberries, violets, rosemary and peppercorns. Cloves, too. It’s vibrant and spicy, with a medium body and tight-knit tannins. Long and firm. Lots of tension. Drink from 2024.

The Freedom Hill Pinot Noirs from Lange are always been some of my favorites from winemaker Jesse Lange, and this one is no exception. The nose is scintillating with notes of wild huckleberry, crushed blueberry, candied blue raspberry, dried tarragon, dried rose, orange pith, and wet earth tones. The palate is much the same, with additional flavors of crushed wild herbs and lemon zest that rest on the back palate. A wonderful wine that is great now but will benefit from a year or two in the cellar. Highly recommended. 2023-2033

93 Points 'Cellar Stocker' | Northwest Wine Report
Lange has been sourcing fruit from Freedom Hill since 1990. This wine is still in its shell, with brooding notes of dark fruit, black tea, plum, love, and spice. Full-feeling, palate coating flavors follow, drawing out on the long, fruit-filled finish. It’s an exclamation point of a wine, showing depth, richness, and intensity along with plenty of freshness. Best after 2026. 13.5% alcohol. 250 cases produced.

For years I have enjoyed the finesse-driven wines from the famed ‘Freedom Hill Vineyard’ which was first planted back back in 1981. This is very fresh and finesse-driven with tart pomegranate, orange rind, caramel and suggestions of volcanic soils on the palate. Dense, heady and also very weightless, this is beautiful Pinot Noir that is already very well-integrated at the two year mark. Drink 2023-2038

91 Points | Vinous
The 2021 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard lifts from the glass with a perfumed blend of violets and roses, accentuating crushed blackberries and hints of sage. Dark tones and dense textural waves of ripe red and black fruits slowly saturate the palate with a bitter staining of primary concentration. The 2021 tapers off long, spicy and with medium length, leaving a sour tinge. - By Eric Guido on January 2024
