2021 Lange Estate Soil Series 'Magma Opus' Pinot Noir

2021 Lange Estate Soil Series 'Magma Opus' Pinot Noir

Our 2021 vintage of the Soil Series is designed for wine enthusiasts eager to explore the geological history and depth of terroir. Each soil type represents layers of geological history, capturing a snapshot of the growing season in every bottle—as we like to think of them, true time capsules. With each sip of this trio, you embark on a journey through time and terroir, experiencing the unique characteristics of Oregon’s diverse soils in every glass.

Jory Soil: Forged from ancient volcanic eruptions and recognized as Oregon’s official state soil in 2011, it was formed from the weathering of Columbia River basalt flows around 25-30 million years ago. Named after Jory Hill in Marion County and the Oregon Trail Pioneering Jory Family, this soil is deep, well-draining, and rich in iron. In fact, its famed iron content provides the distinct hue of the soil and contributes to the nickname ‘Red Hills of Dundee.’
