This pinot noir is a blend of fruit from our longtime partner, Freedom Hill Vineyard, which is planted to marine sedimentary soil. The Lange’s have sourced fruit from the Duschee family since 1996. The site’s typically warm days and cool nights allow for complete fruit ripening while maintaining essential acid balance.
The 2022 Freedom Hill Pinot Noir is a quintessential expression of its unique terroir. Cultivated in the ancient marine Belpine soils of the Mount Pisgah of Polk County AVA, this single vineyard gem offers many facets of blue fruit characteristics that shine gracefully on the palate. Upon first pour, the deep hue captures the eye, hinting at the richness within. Aromas of ripe blueberries, blackberries, and a whisper of violets awaken the senses, inviting you to explore further. The body is both supple and structured, providing a luxurious mouthfeel that is smooth yet intriguingly intricate. The palate is a harmonious blend of vibrant blue fruits layered with subtle undertones of earthy minerality, a true testament to its distinctive origin.

“Graceful and silky, but with a well-structured backbone. Offers raspberry and Satsuma plum flavors framed by savory tea and fresh violet tones as this builds toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2032. 430 cases made.” — Tim Fish, Senior Editor

“A youthful magenta hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard takes on notes of grenadine, pine needles, sage, and pressed wildflowers. Medium-bodied, it has a more compact structure, with ripe, coiled tannins, a mouthwatering feel, fresh acidity, good length, and a light toast finish. This needs time in the cellar and will be best in another couple years, but it’s quite intense and saturates the palate. Drink 2025-2036.”—Audrey Frick

“Freedom Hill has become a Willamette Valley icon planted in 1984, with most of the vineyard replanted in the early 2000s. This is a wine of profound complexity with a brooding character. Dark violets and smoke give an almost deep purple tone to the aromatics. There's a silken nature to the palate, dark yet elegant, with ripe boysenberry, fresh muddled blackberries and roasted sea salt that lingers long on the palate.” — Clive Pursehouse

“The outstanding 2022 Lange ‘Freedom Hill Vineyard’ Pinot Noir comes from this famed property set on marine sedimentary soils. Lange has now been sourcing from this location for three decades. The nose is loaded with bright red fruits alongside blood orange zest, black truffle shavings and suggestions of cardamom. The palate is dense and fresh with a senseless texture. Generous and mineral-laden, enjoy this beautiful wine now and over the next fifteen years to come. Drink 2024-2039"

“Stone dust and crushed chalk give way to wild blueberries and hints of spice as the 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard blossoms in the glass. Cool-toned and racy in feel, it sweeps across the palate with an elegant wave of ripe red and blue fruits, motivated by juicy acidity. The 2022 takes on a spicy character through the medium-length finish, leaving a framework of edgy tannins and notes of licorice to linger.”—Eric Guido, Drinking Window 2025-2031
